Mindset Teach Ukusiza Evaluation

Mindset Network wishes to appoint a competent and suitably qualified external evaluator for its Mindset Teach Ukusiza project. Ukusiza will develop and distribute high quality teacher development videos for foundation and Intermediate Phase Language teachers.

Eight evaluation schools will need to be selected for evaluation purposes. The evaluation will span over two and a half years and four sub-evaluation activities will be required namely baseline, pilot content, midline and endline evaluations.

A detailed Results Framework and a set of Performance Indicators have been developed and these must be adhered to.

Evaluators must have solid experience in qualitative and quantitative evaluations especially education development projects, suitably experienced and competent fieldworkers, highly effective project management and suitable analysis skills.

Teacher Development Manager

Mindset is establishing a new unit, Mindset Teach, focussed on the development of high quality, contextually relevant content for Teacher Professional Development. Mindset has secured funding for the launch of Mindset Teach and is seeking a highly competent Teacher Development Manager to manage this unit as well as the maiden project, Ukusiza. The position of Teacher Development Manager is a performance based contract. Mindset would like the successful applicant to begin as soon as possible but no later than January 2013.

Learn Xtra Live Social Media Presenters

Mindset is looking for students registered for Science, Engineering or Education courses to be social media presenters for our Learn Xtra Live broadcasts.

We broadcast Maths on Monday , Physical Sciences on Tuesday, Life Sciences on Wednesday and Maths Literacy on Thursday and are aimed at learners from Grade 10 - 12. These live television events run from 16:00 - 19:00. All programmes are produced in English.

Social media presenters interact with a expert teacher presenter in studio and with learners on various social media questions. Social media presenters select relevant questions to discuss with teachers and also answer questions submitted by viewers.

For live shows, presenters are expected to be at the Mindset studios in Randburg at least 30 minutes before the start of the show.

The rates for social media presenting is R450 per day.

All interested students are invited to attend screen tests at Mindset's Studios in Randburg (see map) Please complete the online application form by the 20th April. Mindset will contact you to book a time slot.

Social media presenters will be judged on their knowledge of social media, their ability to communicate with learners and their “presence” on camera (e.g. comfort in front of camera and ability to communicate clearly and effectively in English).

Learn Xtra Live Teacher Presenter

Mindset is looking for dynamic South African teachers with experience teaching Grade 10 - 12 Maths, Science, Life Science or Maths Literacy to be teacher presenters for our Learn Xtra Live broadcasts.

We broadcast

Maths on Monday
Physical Sciences on Tuesday
Life Sciences on Wednesday
Maths Literacy on Thursday

Programmes are targeted at learners in Grade 10, 11 and 12.

These live television events run from 16:00 - 19:00. All programmes are produced in English.

Teacher presenters interact with a social media presenter in studio and with learners on various topical questions.

Teachers presenters are required to prepare for each show as follows:

Prepare a set of teaching notes and questions aligned with the curriculum and work schedule for the subject. Where practical demonstrations and/or experiments are possible, these are encouraged.
Submit these notes to Mindset at least 1 week before the show.
Prepare or organise all equipment required for any practical demonstrations or experiments.

For live shows, presenters are expected to be at the Mindset studios in Randburg at least 30 minutes before the start of the show.

The rates for teacher presenting is R1,500 per show.

Content Developer & Reviewer Database

Mindset Learn intends to draw up a database of preferred service providers for all our content development work.

From time to time we require the part time services of:

subject matter experts
educational materials developers
reviewers

We are also interested in individuals or small companies with:

curriculum expertise
experience with developing and/or using digital media in education
broad education research capacity

Content developers are required to:

Prepare curriculum aligned content for specific learning areas in specific formats and to the specifications required by Mindset; this could take the form of content packs or scripts, for example
Check and review content against curriculum standards, checking for accuracy and pedagogic suitability
Review content resources such as interactive lessons or video lessons for accuracy in a range of areas

All Mindset content is prepared in English. Critical skills are an excellent grasp of content, including curriculum requirements and various pedagogic options, very good English writing skills and an ability to put across ideas in accessible, organised and interesting ways. For service providers who are teachers, content development can usually be completed during evening or weekend time and can be scheduled in advance so that it does not clash with busiest term times. Content development rates vary depending on the number of learning resources per learning area and the type of resources to be developed.
