Gradient Of A Linear Function

To introduce the lesson, you could prepare a Cartesian plane and draw the graph of y = x. Let learners trace the graph on tracing paper or transparency to manipulate during the video. They should mark the position of the origin with a small cross on the tracing paper. In this lesson we look at all linear graphs that go through the origin. The parent function is the graph of y = x. We describe how we need to change the parent graph to get any other linear graph. Here we only focus on changes to the gradient of the parent graph, in other words, the effect of changes in the a value only.
