In this lesson we look at how sound can enhance or detract from our lives. Learners have to think about the
three main functions of sound – communication, relaxation and technology. The lesson then provides interesting examples for each of these functions. The learners are introduced to echolocation, radar and ultrasound.
They then explore how sound pollution affects our lives and can even damage our hearing. The learners are
warned about the misuse of mp3 players and are educated about hearing impaired people. Finally, learners are introduced to two recent technological developments that use sound to make our lives easier.
