In this series, we focus on linear functions and the properties of the straight line graph. This series
provides a basis for work on functions and graphs in later grades. The series also supports the work
done in the Mindset Learn series called Study of Functions which addresses the new approach to
functions suggested by the curriculum.
We use some real-life situations that can be represented by linear functions, for example: the costs
of using a telephone, the cost of entrance fees to a Game Reserve and renting a car. This should
encourage your learners to investigate the linear relationships that occur in their everyday lives.
