This lesson begins with encouraging learners to review their prior knowledge of waves by thinking about various questions related to waves. The pause icon is used here to show you where you could pause the video to give learners the opportunity to answer questions. They can check their answers when by watching the video. This will give you an opportunity to assess what they already know and will help to strength their knowledge base. By completing this exercise your learners will gain confidence in their knowledge of the properties of waves before applying this knowledge to the context of 3 dimensional waves.
The lesson then goes on to develop the concept of 3 dimensional waves, such as water waves, and to show learners how the properties of 2 dimensional waves, such as reflection and refraction, apply to 3 dimensional waves. Learners are introduced to the concept of a wavefront for the first time. In a class discussion, make sure that they all understand what a wavefront is, as it is applied throughout the remainder of this series of lessons.
